Machinery Mechanical Testing: What To Know

by Beatrice Lambert

If you are considering purchasing machines for your shop floor and you want to be sure that everything on the machine is safe and up to code, you want to find a mechanical testing company you can trust. This type of service provider will test the machine before it leaves the maker of the machine's location, and so you know it will be safe and ready to go by the time it hits the shop floor at your location. Here are some of the things that you'll want to do before choosing a mechanical testing company.

Look at Verifications and Certifications

The testing professional that goes to the location to do the testing should be able to test that the machine works as it's supposed to, that the machine is safe to be in your plant, and that it's safe to have someone operate it. The machinery testing company will have certifications that they can show you, and they should be able to verify that all of their employees are certified as needed.

Compare Costs

The amount of machines you need to have inspected, the time in which you need to have the machines tested, and the type of machines you choose will all affect the cost. Make sure that you take the time to compare the costs of the different service providers, so you aren't overpaying for an easy job or overpaying to have the work done on several machines.

Stamp of Approval

After the machine has been inspected there should be some type of sticker or marking that goes on it, to prove that it has been inspected properly and that it was marked as safe by the inspector. Make sure that the inspection company will do this for you, and that you don't have to go through any other testing or services to get the approval that you need.

Having a machine tested and approved before you bring it to your shop floor is very important. You don't want to find out that there is something wrong with it after someone is hurt, or after you have a problem on your shop floor since this could cause a lot of liability problems for you. The machinery testing companies will give you a full mechanical report of the machines, and then let you know if there is anything that you need to have changed before you put it in your building.
